Ursinus adds building to its campus

Ursinus adds building to its campus
September 5, 2018

Ursinus College is continuing to expand its Collegeville campus with the construction of a new $7 million building that will serve several functions for the school.

The 16,805-square-foot building called the Commons will be a welcome center for prospective students, a new social hub for existing students, and a space that can be used by alumni as well as the local community. As an effort to connect more with the residents of Collegeville, the public will be welcomed to the Commons and be able to use its meeting spaces and spend time at a new coffee shop that will be part of it.

The project will involve using an existing building — Keigwin Hall — and incorporating it into a newly constructed two-story structure that combined will be the Commons. Keigwin Hall will be renovated and operate as a coffee shop with a terrace that overlooks the town’s Main Street. The new building will have a bookstore, entertainment space and a terrace that overlooks the campus. Another addition will house admissions and meeting spaces. Bernardon is the project architect.

This is the second large project for Ursinus. The school undertook a $29 million project that is reshaping its campus called the Innovation and Discovery Center. That four-story, 42,500-square-foot building is expected to be completed in October. It is the first new building at the school in more than a decade, and part of a strategic plan at Ursinus leading to more development activity at its 170-acre campus.
