Bernardon to design new Bethlehem City gateway

Bernardon to design new Bethlehem City gateway
June 3, 2016

Bernardon is pleased to be providing architectural and interior design services for the new Wilbur Mansion Apartments in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, teaming with NIP Wilbur, LLC to bring new luxury housing to the region.

This unique four-story apartment building will provide a new face to South Bethlehem, including 64 one- and two-bedroom luxury apartments. This project is a collaboration between Bernardon, NIP Wilbur, LLC, Serfass Construction, and Van Cleef Engineering Associates. The new residential product will be situated on the site of the existing Wilbur Mansion, which will also be renovated by NIP Wilbur, LLC.

The original Wilbur Mansion was built in 1865 by Elisha Packer Wilbur Sr., a Bethlehem icon who owed the Lehigh Valley Railroad, local banks, and coal mines and was the Treasurer and a Board member of Lehigh University.  The new development will be a landmark for the City of Bethlehem, significant in its history, location, and importance.

The 64 luxury apartments will feature the latest in resident amenities, including an underground parking garage,  a 24/7 fitness center, controlled access bicycle storage, resident lounge, coffee bar, rooftop party deck, fire pits and grilling areas, and a private green courtyard lounge.  The plentiful exterior balconies, terraces and roof decks will take full advantage of the 360 degree views of South Bethlehem.

Along with the excellent views of Bethlehem’s cityscape and river, the property is near bike and running paths, parks, churches, Steel Stack Entertainment Center, retail and cultural destinations. It is also within walking distance of some of Bethlehem’s finest restaurants and perfectly placed for the enjoyment of the annual seasonal festivals and celebrations held downtown.

Bernardon brings to the project a strong expertise in mixed use and multifamily design. The firm currently has over 5,600 units in design or under construction in the Mid-Atlantic region.

“Bernardon is pleased and honored to continue our multifamily sector growth deep into the Lehigh Valley Region and work on an exciting and rewarding product with a first class developer and development team,” said Michael S. McCloskey AIA, LEED AP, Associate Principal of the firm.
